butter n thunder
I open my hands and let you in once again
these tears start fallin’
steady stream, face is feelin’ it
i am filled with your beautiful love all over again
i am refreshed by the wind of your presence
no distractions
me n you
i’ll never get over you, Father
i sit here in my grey chair, fuzzy slippers on.
world, off.
the faint sound of my sheets in the wash
a sound I hear, yet subconsciously tune out
what if Jesus himself sang a song… what would his voice sound like?
i pray in Heaven one day he’d sing a song just for me. i’d listen to it all day long
would you sound like butter and thunder all in one?
melting our ears with the heat of your glory
causing our rough edges to beam with respect
for a God so holy, yet wholeheartedly accepting of us
would you sound like the many rushing waters of a river and the stillness of the sea of Galilee?
would you hit notes we’ve never heard and sing lyrics never sung before?
would your voice make us laugh and cry in the same melody?
would you dance for us, give us a performance, and cause us to bow down before your great glory?
would the bridge of your song mend all broken hearts?
would every lyric lead to longing for more of the only singer who could string together melodies that would leave our hearts unable to speak?
because it’s when we’re silent we can sense the rush of love that’s so intimate
so sacred
so unlike any other
couldn’t compare to a human type of love
could only come from another place, one that is far above the earth we live n walk n talk on
yet lives in my heart all the more
your voice is sweeter than the sound of harp strings
or fingers on piano keys
no sound could compare to the one that will fill our heavenly ears one day
as we stand face to face with the One we’ve walked hand in hand with during our earthly days
i can’t wait for the day when I’ll meet my maker face to face
the only one who has sustained me
and allowed me to walk in heavenly purpose all of my days
strengthened me with his strategy:
lovin’ him, lovin’ the family he’s entrusted to me, and holdin’ fast in the face of adversity
i close my hands and I hold onto all you’ve deposited into me
knowin’ that your words are enough for a heart that longs for the more you’ve left resting in me
you are always more than I could ever ask or think
if I never get another thing
i’m livin’ at peace
because your song, the one that lives in my heart, is the only one i’ll ever need
