grace waits poem pt. 1
grace waits
grace waits
at the truthful gate
light shines
golden rays
on all of our darkest days
grace waits
for us to let go & take hold of grace
don’t lie
don’t deny
don’t rely on what takes
no, lay hold of grace
arms open, wide awake
approving of you even with the depths of distaste
you’ve made a way to enter into your soul
you’ve done it
the thing you never thought you would do
and know that grace reigns when you tell the truth
fight denial
throw out the lies
put on truth and watch freedom rise
and health flood where all you can hear is the sound of your cries
truth hurts when it comes to our sin
but truth can also heal where wounds have been
it can stick to the stone, the parts of you that are cold, and make it alive again
like honey and sap, it will heal you where you’ve been trapped
truth comes, bold
sin comes to scold
leaves you out in the cold
a bitter day with fresh winter trees
no leaves
you sit, bunched on the back porch
the cold, a great punch
anxiety fills your lungs
because all that is heard are lies from your tongue
let the sweater that you wear,
not be a puffer of despair, but
a blanket of grace, warm and accepting on this cold day
