set me free from peoples opinions
a poem and prayer
Proverbs 29:25 “The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the Lord is protected.”
set me free from people's opinions
keep me safe n the shadow of your wings
where there is security
because this life with you should be the main thing
can’t keep anticipating
wondering
waiting
what the next opinion will be from men who don't really know me
if someone doesn’t hate you, are you really doing what you’re supposed to?
help me contextualize others the way I pray others could contextualize me
remind me of my history, the way I am, and the way I used to be
take me back to the beginning
once i didn’t know a thing
hardly knew you
who am I to assume what others are from my skewed view?
my vision is a tunnel, limited by my human gaze
narrow and unable to see all the history and pain people face
narrow and unable to see the enemy bothering me
is barely hanging on by a thread
so I forgive once again
so I may know your love for me is deeper than I could ever imagine
your love for them is all consuming and gracious, full of mercy and blessing
may I align my heart with one that is full of compassion, faithful love abounding
kept safe in the shadow of Your love
establish safety in my heart as I trust in your Word
trustworthy and true the words you echo
from me to you, I sincerely ask you again and again
set me free from the opinions of man
may they not hold me back any longer
may Your words be the ones fuel me further
may I get over all the mindless phrases spewed in the air
mildew must not enter this sacred heart of mine
I will hide your word in my heart
entrust what You’ve given me to really be mine
it’s mine for the taking with every breath I take
freedom is my mind being changed
so change me, oh God, from the inside out
I pour out the assumptions
fill me with your affirmations
cause my heart not to doubt thy words the one who created the skies sings over me
sing over me Jesus
change my mind Jesus
till my heart turns warm toward all who may deny me
and my hands make a warm dinner for all who would come against me
my God, my God my flesh won’t have the final say.
No, You, my Lord, will be the One who has the final say.
Your word, my life.. may it be intertwined as i stand in the destiny and calling of all you have for me
may I live a life that is set free by the hands of the One who hung on calvary
