typa love
that’s right, I meant to type “typa.”
you know you talk that way with your friends at home. this is the authenticity I’m trying to set when I invite you into my art.
typa love | poem
what if I told you I knew your type?
the typa love that won't leave you alone at night
the typa love that's not toxic
the typa love that can't be boxed in
the typa love that wants to know all of you
the parts of yourself that shine and even the ones you wish you could hide
the ones you instagram and the ones you’d rather keep on mute
you may be stayin' silent but know this typa love has its eyes on you
gentle and patient, this the typa love the one you’ll never wanna refute
the one that’ll have you refusing anyone that comes around tryin' to confuse you
the typa love you can’t help but smile about
the typa love that’ll have you laughin' all by yourself
the typa love where you can look up n know that’s where you’re found
this relationship is the one you can't wait to be with, it's the type that's good at listening n validating all my feelings
this love is the type that knows no bounds
this typa love is one Heaven can't help but sing about
the typa love that’ll see you at your worst and still believe the best
the typa love that won’t leave you feelin' dead, nah, when you encounter it you can’t help but resurrect
will have you doin' a heart check of what love really means
but when your heart and true love really meets, you can't help but question what it is you've been missin'
won’t have you missin’ what you had or what you lost
beginning to understand that it’s when i'm tossed that I find God once again
i've come to discover that the only love that matters is his
but it's easier to give in when you haven’t known a love that holds you in all of your messed up livin'
when you’re backed against the wall n you’d rather just give into it all
the temptation, the stress, the settling for less
what i've learned is that it’s not about the temptation or our inclination to live stuck in the mess we've made our bed in
nah that's all just symptoms of our root system
stemming from our need for savin’
mess around and come to know what this saving love is that i'm trying to show
doesn't seek for personal gain
doesn't leave you wrestling with shame
isn't one of angst
won't remember what you did to reject him
because he honors you with great affection
it’s a journey to discover what relational love has been modeled like for you
and we gotta do the work of discovering the lens we wanna love through
i've been discoverin' that
n comparing n contrasting
we don't have to question if we’re enough for this love that never wanted to keep us guessin
this love makes it clear, dismissing any notion that we aren’t enough for the type of love that the roaring of the oceans couldn’t overcome
feet on the pedals on my bike of striving and trying
i've fallen into love and fallen off all at once
and like a father picks up his child after they've been wounded
i've been held by hands with holes in them as reminders of when he was wounded
weary and wounded, wailing for his enemies forgiveness
what is this radical love I've come to fall in love with?
inscribing my name on His palms with His pens
His hand-writing became the love letter I never knew I needed
and he's been re-writing every narrative i've been told
to leave me with a love that'll take the rest of my days to unfold
you're exactly where you need to be
for this typa love to meet you
the typa love that'd show you you're worth every cost because with bloodshot eyes, he'd show you the blood type you've been needing all along.
"And yet I will show you the most excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
1 Corinthians 13:1-7
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39
